New portable video eyewear from iCuiti
One of the more unusual items making the rounds this year at CES is the new Icuiti V920 Video Eyewear glasses. This portable entertainment solution, priced at $499 and available now, is essentially a pair of glasses which differ from portable video eyewear in the past. The V920, unlike units which were traditionally strapped or mounted to one's head, sits more like typical eyewear.
The V920, with a weight of 3.5 ounces, has two LCD screens built in. The screens provide "a virtual theater sized screen" (image appears as if projected by 11 feet or so). Headphones built into the temples of the eyewear provide sound, or can be removed if another pair of headphones are desired.
All controls of the V920 are handled through a control box which can connect to almost any type of video/audio source. From the perspective of portables, it would work well with items like laptops or portable DVD players. The control box also houses two AA batteries which provide an estimated 4.5 hours of playtime. It can also draw USB power from a laptop or the like with an optional USB power adapter.
