Sony shows off new noise-canceling headphones
Sony today announced they were bringing some new noise canceling headphones to the market this June. The MDR-NC50 will debut for $199.99 as full size headphones with a slim swivel folding style for easy transport.
These new headphones, according to Sony, use advanced noise-canceling circuitry to offer a 14db reduction in sounds at the 300hz level. The MDR-NC50 works in both active and passive modes, meaning the noise canceling technology can be turned off as needed without impacting the audio listening quality at normal sound levels. There's also a built-in monitor switch so surrounding sounds can be heard on a temporary basis.
"As the market leader in headphones, we have leveraged our strengths in technology and design to offer this high-performance noise-canceling solution, which aims to cut unwanted sounds by up to 80 percent," said Jim Leahey, Sony's general manager for peripherals and enhancements in its Personal, Mobile and Imaging Division. "People want to make the most of their travel and commute time, while also making it enjoyable. These headphones offer some of the best sound quality on the market, packaged with comfort and style."
