Mintek recalls portable DVD player battery

Heads up for those of you who own Mintek portable DVD player model DVD-1710 with the accompanying RB-LiP01 or RB-LiP02 battery pack purchased between September 2002 and January of this year. The company, working in conjunction with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, has issued a voluntary recall of the battery pack. Mintek has received 10 reports of incidents, including nine cases of the battery pack overheating and/or catching fire and one report of the battery pack overheating and bursting.

Consumers are urged to stop using and recharging the battery pack immediately and contct Mintek for a free replacement battery. The player itself can continue to be used with the AC power adapter.
