Portable video player maker Archos announced today they were releasing an updated version of their Gmini 400 portable video device for $329.95. The new Gmini 402 is available now.
The Gmini 402 is a portable video playing device (i.e. DivX, MPEG-4, WMV) which can also display photos (i.e. JPEG, BMP) and play music (i.e. MP3, WMA). It is compatible with Microsoft's PlaysForSure program, which means it can also play video and audio files from certain online subscription based download services. The Gmini 402 features a 2.2" color LCD housed in a metallic casing, weighs 5.64 ounces and contains a 20GB hard drive, which equates to up to 80 hours of video, 200,000 photos or 10,000 songs.
Other notable features of the new Gmini 402 include the ability to transfer digital camera photos directly to the player through its USB 2.0 host port, video output for video playback and picture display on a television and interactive games. Battery life on the rechargeable battery is estimated at up to 10 hours for music playback and up to 4 hours for video.
"The Gmini 402 improves our PC-centric line of Pocket Multimedia Centers, offering integration with Microsoft PlaysForSure and Windows Media(R) Audio and Video protected files," said Henri Crohas, ARCHOS chief executive officer. "The Gmini 402 is a perfect summer holiday companion to take all your favorite digital entertainment on the go."
