New Griffin iFM combines FM, voice record, remote control for iPods

Monday August 1, 2005
The long awaited Griffin iFM, as reported last week by technology blog Engadget, is now available for pre-order. This multi-function device, developed by iPod accessories maker Griffin Technology, is reportedly set to debut in August for $49.99.

The iFM combines the functions of FM radio tuning, FM recording, voice recording and a remote control. The FM mode offers up a digital auto scan feature, US, European and Japanese band switch function for multi-country use and six station presets per band. The remote function allows the iFM, which attaches to the iPod through a small cable, to control things like play, pause and volume.

As for the recording features, the voice recorder uses a built-in, omni-directional microphone to capture someone's voice. FM record allows the user to record a FM broadcast as it plays. Both recording modes save automatically to the iPod's hard drive, allowing for a large amount of potential storage.
