Rio MP3 players no more
Friday September 2, 2005
Though this news is a week old, I felt it important enough to make note. D&M Holdings, which maintains various popular consumer electronics brands, decided last Friday to fold their Rio MP3 player line. The company's decision to drop Rio "followed a determination that the mass-market portable digital audio player market was not a strong enough strategic fit with the company's core and profitable premium consumer electronics brands to warrant additional investment in the category". This exit from the MP3 player market is planned for September 30 of 2005.
D&M Holdings also said they will continue to support customers of the Rio brand, including customer service, repairs and warranty claims.
