New iPod Hi-Fi is Apple's "Home Stereo. Reinvented." solution
Apple today rolled out a new portable, high-fidelity speaker system designed to tightly integrate with their widely successful iPod digital audio player. The new iPod Hi-Fi is priced at $349 and available now.
The iPod Hi-Fi, said Apple, is an all-in-one designed speaker system which can be powered from either six D-cell batteries or via an integrated power supply which connects to a wall socket. The speaker system features a “unique isolated enclosure system that includes two custom designed wide-range speakers and a tuned, ported bass system”, reportedly minimizing vibration while maximizing sound quality.
Features on the iPod Hi-Fi, according to Apple, include handles for transporting the speaker system, a removable front grille, touch sensitive volume control buttons, control options via an included Apple Remote, an iPod dock connector which recharges the player as it sits in it and a dual-purpose 3.5-mm auxiliary input that accepts either analog or digital signals for connection to a wide range of audio sources.
"Apple is reinventing the home stereo with the new iPod Hi-Fi, the first iPod accessory that adds true high-fidelity sound quality to the iPod," said Steve Jobs, Apple's CEO, in a statement. "iPod Hi-Fi's unrivaled acoustic performance and stunning design is at home in any room in the house."
