Targus Debuts iPod Security Locks

Tuesday June 20, 2006
Targus, a maker of notebook cases and accessories, today announced some of the first ever security locks for use by Apple iPod owners. The new Mobile Security Lock for iPod ($39.99), Desktop Security Lock for iPod ($29.99) and Eyelet Security Lock for iPod ($19.99) should all be available shortly.

The black Mobile Security Lock looks to be Targus’ flagship iPod security lock feature. It, like the other two security locks, features a keyless, user settable three digit combination and is designed for use with iPods configured with a dock connector, including the 5G, nano, iPod Photo, 4G, iPod mini and 3G. This specific security lock model features a compact case for housing the retractable cable and lock, according to Targus. It is designed for on the go use, with the cable first being looped around the strap of a backpack, purse or briefcase, for example, followed by inserting the combination lock through the opening in the case, and then attaching the lock to the iPod.

Also available in black are the Desktop Security Lock for iPod and Eyelet Security Lock for iPod. The former is, as the name implies, designed to secure a dockable iPod to a more stationary object and features a 6.5-foot galvanized steel cable. The Eyelet Security Lock is designed for use with any notebook computer's cable lock to secure the iPod and notebook together by attaching to the iPod's dock connector. The cable is then threaded through the Eyelet Lock's pass-through loop and then fastened to the notebook to secure both devices.
