New Zen Portable Media Players Coming from Creative

Wednesday June 21, 2006
Creative Technology today kicked out two tiny portable media players which they feel could be potential iPod killers. The new Zen V and Zen V Plus are expected to be available in July and August respectively.

The Zen V Plus, according to Creative, is the more feature heavy of the two portable media players. This device, which sports a 1.5-inch OLED screen, is available for $229.99 for the 4GB model in glossy black with blue accents, $169.99 for the 2GB model in glossy black or white with green accents, and $129.99 for the 1GB model in glossy black or white with orange accents. Measuring a mere 2.7” x 1.7” x 0.6” and weighing just 1.55 ounces, the Zen V Plus packs into its tiny frame the ability to enjoy audio (MP3, WMA/subscription WMA, WAV, Audible audiobooks), video and digital photos.

Joining these features for the Zen V Plus are other goodies like a stylish, scratch resistant body design; a built-in FM radio with 32 station presets; a line-in port for direct recording from another audio device; a built-in voice recorder; and a built-in organizer which supports synchronizing with Microsoft Outlook for calendar, contacts and tasks.

The Zen V, meanwhile, costs $199.99 for the 4GB model in glossy black with blue accents, $149.99 for the 2GB model in glossy black or white with green accents and $119.99 for a 1GB model in glossy black or white with orange accents. This player shares most of the same features as the Zen V Plus, minus the video and FM playback.
