iLiad: The New E-Book Reader in Town

Monday July 24, 2006
Sony’s next generation portable e-book reader, known simply as the Reader, has seen some push back from earlier projected launch dates. With an estimated availability now of late summer, this has left an opening for another e-book reader from Philips spin-off iRex Technologies. Enter the iLiad.

The iLiad, priced at over $800, is currently available via overseas shipping. This e-book reader makes use of “electronic paper display” technology to reportedly make on-screen reading appear just like you are reading normal pages from a book. The device, which has a touch screen with a stylus, lets one change the font size of the viewable text to make reading easier on the eyes. Other interesting features include the ability to input notes and comments on-screen, support for wired or wireless Internet connections and the ability to connect to an online service for delivery of new e-book content.
