Franklin Electronic Dictionary Plays MP3 Files

Wednesday August 9, 2006
Franklin Electronic Publishers, a developer of electronic dictionaries and the like, isn’t a company you normally associate with MP3 players. That being said, they’ve announced their first electronic reference device which incorporates MP3 playback capabilities for a price of $79.99.

The MWD-480 has built into it 119MB (120MB essentially) of memory for storing MP3 audio, which includes music, audio books and podcasts. This is on top of a SD memory card expansion slot which allows one to add additional removable memory for more music. Beyond the built-in MP3 playback capability, other features of the MWD-480 include 274,000 Merriam-Webster Dictionary definitions, phonetic spell correction, five games and a clock.
