Best Buy Enters Music Download Business
Well known consumer electronics retailer Best Buy announced today they were teaming with online music service provider RealNetworks to unveil the Best Buy Digital Music Store. This new service is both a permanent download store and a subscription download service.
The Best Buy Digital Music Store is geared towards working with compatible portable media players. This means one can download music to own or rent to a variety of players from the likes of Creative, Samsung and SanDisk, but not to any of the Apple iPods. SanDisk in particular is offering a player in conjunction with Best Buy and RealNetworks which is optimized for use with the Best Buy Digital Music Store called the Sansa e200R Rhapsody player, priced in a range from $139.99 MSRP for the 2GB model to $249.99 MSRP for the 8GB player. The cost of music will range from $.99 per song to $14.99 per month for unlimited downloading and music listening (with the caveat that if you cancel the service all of the music you downloaded becomes unusable).
