CES 2007: Sony MDR-NC60

Monday January 8, 2007
Sony unveiled some new noise cancelling headphones at the Consumer Electronics Show. The new MDR-NC60 headphones are priced at $200 and should be available in March.

The MDR-NC60 noise cancelling headphones, said Sony, are their new flagship model and block out upwards of 85 percent of outside noise. This is done via a built-in microphone in each ear cup which detects outside noises and uses a special noise cancelling circuit to create an opposite sound wave to cancel out the incoming sound. The headphones, which are battery powered, can be used without the batteries for regular listening purposes. In addition, a monitor switch lets one temporarily suspend the noise cancelling feature if the need to hear outside noises arises.

The MDR-NC60 headphones also sport a swivel ear cup design so they can be packed more easily in the included carrying case.
