Maxx Digital PDV8500 Portable DVD Player Borrows Sony PSP Design

Sunday June 29, 2008
It isn't all that often you see portable DVD players taking any particular shape beyond the normal flip top or slot loading designs. Here's one though which seems to take design tips from portable gaming systems like the Sony PlayStation Portable - the Maxx Digital PDV8500.

The Maxx Digital PDV8500, with a listed retail price of around $230, does indeed look a lot like a portable gaming system. It offers no such functions, however, instead being a fully functional portable DVD player. It sports an 8.5-inch widescreen (16:9) display as well as built-in speakers and an anti-shock system to help avoid skips of your DVD as it plays.

Other features of the PDV8500 include support for a wide variety of CD & DVD formats, a USB port, a SD/MMC memory card slot which will let you view photos and MPEG-4 videos on the player and an included remote and carrying case. It is available now. [via]
