Walmart Drops Some Digital Music Download Pricing
The business of downloading MP3s for your favorite music players like the iPod is a big deal to retailers. So much so in fact that, to compete with Apple's iTunes, Walmart is applying its philosophy of lower prices on select MP3 downloads.
Walmart said that the top 25 songs will price starting at $0.74 per track. This is opposed to the standard price of $0.99 per track. The discount retailer is offering some other special promotions as well, including a free MP3 download with every CD purchased in stores or online as well as a free MP3 "track of the week" for customers to discover new music.
These price changes are part of a new rollout Walmart did of its MP3 downloads store. Changes to the service itself include support for Mac OS, Linux and Windows operating systems, being accessible through Firefox, Safari and Internet Explorer browsers and Music and allowing for artwork to sync directly to default media players, such as iTunes or Windows Media Player.
