With access to a database of over one million titles, the Nook app for Android is the perfect companion to your Nook e-reader. Even if you don't own a Nook, this app gives you access to Barnes & Noble's e-book database and book-sharing capabilities. There's also a Nook app for iOS and Amazon Fire tablets.

Nook App for Android Pros and Cons

What We Like
  • Access and read your entire Nook library.

  • View the full Barnes & Noble online store.

  • Purchases quickly download to your device.

What We Don't Like
  • Limited display customization options.

The biggest benefit of the Nook app for Android is that you can read books you purchased through the Barnes & Noble online store on any mobile device. The downside is that doesn't include all of the features of the iOS version or an actual Nook. For example, there's no way to change the font of the text.

Setting Up Nook for Android

Search for "Nook" in the Google Play Store to download and install the app. If you have a Nook account, enter your account name and password from the launch screen that appears when launching the Nook app. If you are new to Nook, you have the option to create a Barnes & Noble account.

Using the Nook App

Once your account is set up and approved, you're taken to the main Nook app screen. From this screen, you have to access your library, including a few sample books. You can read the book you are currently reading on your Nook as well as shop for new books and access any files that you saved.

While reading a book, tap the screen to bring up the options interface. Use the icons at the top of the screen to adjust the brightness (the light icon), access the table of contents (the three horizontal lines), and view the pages in grid mode. Tap the three vertical dots to access additional settings such as language and accessibility options.

Creating a bookmark is as simple as pressing in the upper-right corner of the page. A tab appears, indicating that the page is bookmarked. Press in the same area again to clear the bookmark. To view your bookmarks, tap the table of contents icon and tap the Bookmarks tab.

Browsing the B&N Store

From the home screen, tap Bookstore at the bottom of the screen to browse the selection of available Nook books. You'll see recommendations based on the books you downloaded in the past. Tap Categories at the top of the screen to browse by genre, or select the magnifying glass to search for books by title, author, or keyword.

In addition to the official B&N store, there are plenty of websites where you can get free ebooks for the Nook app.
