The Sony NWZ-S730 digital Walkmans are by far one of the thinnest audio/video players ever released by Sony. They measure just 5/16 of an inch in thickness, with a width of 1-3/4- and height of 3-5/8-inches. Weight is around 1.6-ounces and the back lit, color screen of these players is set at 2-inches.
Sony, which suffered harshly against the Apple iPod for once making its MP3 players support a proprietary audio format only, claims now that its NWZ-S730 players support a larger mix of audio/video file types then before. This includes, for audio, WMA-DRM, WMA, AAC, PCM and MP3 and, for video, WMV-DRM, WMV, AVC and MPEG-4. This is in addition to being able to display digital JPEG images.
A new feature of Sony's MP3 players debuts in this model - SensMe Channels. This function creates custom music channels on the device based upon your music collection. Channels are suggested based upon "each song's speed, mood and rhythm." 11 themed channels are created as a result.
Another highlighted function is included noise cancellation, said to reduce up to 75 percent of outside noises. This is further enhanced with included Sony headphones which offer a noise-canceling feature of their own.
Other features of the NWZ-S730 players include up to 40/8 hours of audio/video playback on the rechargeable battery, up to 1,850 songs or 30 hours of video stored (on the 8GB model), audio enhancement technologies, a FM tuner and customizable screen backgrounds.
