After several on-again, off-again reports about Hewlett-Packard’s much talked about Windows 7 tablet, it turns out that the HP Slate is not only real, it’s spectacular! If you’re looking for a more business-friendly tablet with a full-fledged OS, that is.
For folks who are obsessing about proportions and other, um, features a la Seinfeld, here’s what the HP Slate brings to the table.
Price: Might as well, get this out of the way. The HP Slate will retail for $799, which puts it a smidgen under Apple’s highest-priced iPad 3G. The device will also come with an HP Slate Digital Pen, HP Slate Dock and HP Slate Portfolio.
Display and dimensions: Screen size is 8.9 inches, which the display also benefiting from a Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator. The device is 0.58 inches thick and, depending on how you hold it, 9.21 inches wide and 5.91 inches tall. Weight starts at 1.5 pounds.
Brains: The operating system is Windows 7 Professional (32-bit). The processor is a 1.86 GHz Intel Atom. Memory is 2 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM.
Wireless connectivity: Wi-Fi integrated 802.11b/g/n + Bluetooth 3.0 + HS combo.
Storage: Up to 64 GB solid state drive with USB 2.0 and option for a CD/DVD R/RW drive.
Camera: Integrated VGA webcam on the front for video chat and conferencing. 3MP camera on the back for still-image and video capture.
Battery life: Rated up to 5+ hours.
