Three new IMTs are the first out of the factory for Archos. These are the Archos 5, Archos 5G and Archos 7. All three make use of WiFi, such as that found in coffee shops, and/or 3G mobile networks (similar to the type of wireless connectivity your cell phone has) to connect to the Internet. The Archos 5G includes built-in 3.5G functionality which you can use with your mobile provider's data plan, while the other two require it to be added on as an option. All three also offer the 802.11 WiFi for connectivity.
Three primary Internet functions are laid out by Archos for its IMTs. These include a built-in Web browser which offers full-page viewing without needing to scroll left to right, integrated Flash support so you can do things like watch online videos and an email application for managing your email with a built-in touchscreen QWERTY keyboard.
All three IMTs have a number of hardware aspects which make them interesting. They have thin designs with a black steel casing which houses a five or seven inch touchscreen display, a fast processor and hard drives up to 320GB in size. To put this latter item in perspective, an IMT with this drive size, says, Archos, can hold up to 300 full-length movies, thousands of songs or millions of digital photos.
Other features of these IMTs include 800x480 display resolution, support for transferring photos from digital cameras, recording of television programs via an optional accessory, download support for music and videos from online sources and wireless use of audio or video content stored on your home PC. Prices for these Archos devices, which are available beginning September 2008, range from around $350 to $550, depending upon hard drive size and built-in features.
