A new device just to market is looking to do that. It is called the Peek and it is an email-only device. It is a straight forward alternative to mobile phones and multi-year contracts as well as Web-based Internet tablets which offer a host of confusing features to choose from. Just want to check your email? That is the only thing the makers of the Peek have designed it to do.
Features:
The Peek is a pocket-size device which looks something like a smartphone. It is hardly that, though. It offers up a 2.5-inch color display which is 240 x 320 pixels and a small, full keyboard for typing messages to others. Dimensions are approximately 4.02- x 2.7- x 0.42-inches and it is very light in weight.
The Peek's only focus is to let you check and interact with up to three of your personal email accounts. It currently works with email from major providers such as Yahoo, Google (Gmail), Microsoft (Hotmail) and AOL, allowing you to to start sending and receiving email to your favorite people in what the manufacturer says is just a few minutes of setup time.
Peek works on wireless networks similar to your cell phone, which allows for greater nationwide usage. It is said to have an easy GUI to navigate through and battery life is being promoted as around two to three days "with typical usage." It is also available in multiple body colors.
At the time of this writing, the Peek costs around $100 for the device and $20 a month for unlimited email access to your three accounts. This price is not tied to the email providers, but rather instead the cost to use the Peek service to access your emails.
