The inMotion iM5 comes in a pencil box-sized design which is highlighted by a silver grille trimmed in iPod white. The mesh of this grill conceals a pair of small speakers while a small rectangle on the front of the case hides a docking station which slides in and out like a drawer. This drawer glides out when a button is pushed so it can dock with most third and fourth generation iPods, including the mini, photo and nano.
The speakers themselves have four full range micro drivers, which are powered by a Class D sound amplifier and special bass technology which enhances low frequencies without needing a subwoofer. The sound system, speakers included, weighs 20 ounces and folds to close at 8.4 x 2.1 x 3.8.
The inMotion iM5 automatically syncs and recharges the docked iPod when the unit is plugged into an AC power source. Other special features of this portable speaker sound system include a composite video out jack on the rear of the device for displaying photos from a compatible iPod on any television or projector, support for a subwoofer through a subwoofer output connection, 24 hours of AA battery life when not connected to an AC adapter and connectivity to other audio devices, such as portable DVD players or laptops, through an auxiliary input port.
The shock-resistant inMotion iM5s accessories included in the box are a power supply, 3.5mm stereo cable, iPod docking adapters, users guide and a protective case which has a wrist strap and cushioned compartments for the player and components of the portable audio system.
